Abstract:A new conception, average powder density defined as the powder quantity clad on unit area of substrate surface has been put forward. Critical claddings were obtained by using a 2 kW continuous-wave CO2 laser and a powder injector. Experimental results showed that, specific energy of laser cladding is proportional to average powder density, and average powder density has an important influence on the cladding depth and angle respectively.
