Abstract:Titanium and titanium alloy facilitate to be oxidized and nitrided at high temperatures, which leads to the brittle joints. During the welding process, grains of the heated zone take on strong growing tendency. These features bring about some problems to the application of titanium and its alloys. The pulse wave laser beam was used for welding TA2 pure titanium to control the grain sizes of the fusion and heat-affected zone. Furthermore the microstructure and mechanical properties of the weld beads were also analyzed.
